NuvaRing (also known as the Oestrogen and Progestagen Ring)
The NuvaRing is a simple and safe means of preventing pregnancy. Other benefits of the NuvaRing include reducing acne, making periods more regular and reducing menstrual cramps.
The NuvaRing contains the hormones Oestrogen and Progestagen which are released into the body when worn. These hormones work by preventing ovulation, which means there is no egg for the sperm to fertilize. The hormones contained in the NuvaRing have the added effect of thickening the cervical mucus, making it much harder for the sperm to get through.
The NuvaRing is worn like a tampon. This means that anyone opting for the NuvaRing as a form of contraception needs to keep to a schedule for when they need to wear it. It is worth noting down the correct days for the removal and insertion of NuvaRings.
When used perfectly the NuvaRing is 99% effective, however due to human error that effectiveness drops to about 91% as people do not always remember to put a new NuvaRing in on the correct day every month.
